Abt A6. Discreet improvements.
When the Audi A6 hit the market some years ago it was a big thing in the automobile world. The A6 set styling standards with its smooth, modern design. Abt Sportsline developed a tuning programme that underlines the convincing technology and appearance of the A6.
Abt offers discerning A6 owners an assortment of 15 different light alloy wheels, sporting the typical five-spoke style, starting with a A15 model - a 7 x 15 inches single piece cast rim. For those preferring less space in the wheel arch of their A6, Abt Sportsline has the perfect choice at hand. The top A27 model is a three-piece forged high-tech wheel in an impressive 9 x 19 inches dimension. A6 owners can keep in touch with the most recent developments as the brand new Z6 wheel at a size of 8 x 18’’ made its world debut on the the IAA motor show.
A specially tuned sports suspension ensures further improved handling characteristics. The Abt Sportsline team relies on the expertise of 1999 German Super Touring Car champion, Christian Abt. As the head of the technical department, DTM driver Christian Abt himself advises on the suspension and chassis tuning of all Abt sport suspensions. He developed a complete suspension as well as a set of sports springs for the A6 which lower the vehicle by between app. 35 and 40 millimetres.
Extreme discretion - is the Abt philosophy when tuning the elegant body of the Audi A6. For example with the Abt front grill and its two struts. A grill for the front skirt with chrome framed fog lights also perfectly matches the sophisticated A6 style. For the high-grade steel back-silencers Abt Sportsline offers the choice between a twin pipe and a spectacular four pipe version. For the styling of the interior a set of floormats, embellished with the distinctive Abt logo, and the popular aluminium gear lever knobs lend the A6 an individual flavour. As for the whole product range, Abt offers steel-braided brake lines for the A6. These reduce brake fading and improve the response to pedal movements. The Abt sports braking system completes the package for the powerful sedan.
Whilst the Abt specialists took extreme pains in modifying the elegant exterior of the A6, their colleagues in the engine department came up with no less than 13 kits for boosting power and torque. For the 150 hp turbo engine alone there are four variations between 142 and 228 kW (193 to 310 hp). The most powerful version makes the A6 perform like a true sportscar. Four power enhancement kits are also available for the four and six cylinder TDI engines. The offer includes a range from 97 kW (132 hp) up to 155 kW (210 hp) for the 2.5-litre-V6 TDI engine. Thanks to a power boost from the Kempten-based specialists, the 2.8-litre unit offers at 154 kW (210 hp) a similar output as the 3-litre-successor which is now being produced by Audi. The 169 kW (230 hp) 2.7-litre-bi-turbo-engine is increased up to 202 kW (275 hp) or 265 kW (360 hp). By removing the speed limit of the 4.2-litre-version Abt Sportsline finally clears the way.
